This project formed part of Logan City Council’s ongoing investment in the local community, through the 'investLogan' initiative

“SDA housing of this standard requires large blocks of land to cater for adequate backyard space, wider hallways, and higher ceilings, which we can accommodate in Logan. This project has been perfectly balanced when it comes to the SDA requirements, the needs of the residents, and the commercial viability of an investment.”
— Cr Jon Raven, City of Logan Deputy Mayor, and Division 5 Councillor
“The front and backyard and alfresco area allow them (the residents) to feel like they’re at a recreational park in their own home. They’re out in their backyard, out in the community, doing activities in their yard, so that outdoor alfresco area is critical.”
— Steve Greenwood, investLogan Chair
“Of all the flaws in Australia’s housing system, the lack of suitable accommodation for people with a disability is among the worst. Everyone has a right to live as part of the community and to have choice and control over their own housing. SDA projects like this one help make that possible.”
— Larissa Bridge, Home in Place Operations Manager – Specialist Services
This project saw BlueCHP proudly deliver two uniquely designed Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes in Marsden, Queensland. Both homes were built to High Physical Support (HPS) standards.
Each home features two spacious living areas and three bedrooms, all with direct access to shared outdoor spaces. Decorative screening and thoughtfully placed greenery provide added privacy along the external walls.
Designed to support residents with complex physical needs, the homes include reinforced ceilings with ceiling hoist tracks, wider hallways and doorways, and assistive technology such as electronic doors and blinds that can be controlled easily by a switch.
Appliances, fixtures, and fittings, including counters, taps, handles, and switches, are all accessible from a seated position. All rooms are oversized, creating additional clear spaces to allow for the wider turning circles of assistive devices such as electric wheelchairs or mobile hoists.
Built on a challenging battle-axe block with a rear power easement, the design cleverly turned site constraints into advantages. The long private driveway enhances security and privacy for residents, while the mirrored layout of the two homes maximises space and functionality. Positioned forward on the block, the design allows for large, landscaped backyards, with multiple private seating areas. Concrete pathways and accessible garden beds ensure the entire yard can be enjoyed independently by residents.
Home in Place (formerly Compass Housing) will provide ongoing tenancy and property management. BlueCHP and Home in Place have a strong history of collaboration, including the Home4Life initiative, which delivered 69 SDA homes under the Hunter Residences Program for people transitioning from institutional settings.
BlueCHP extends sincere thanks to Hutchinson Builders, idearchitecture, and all contributing trades for their role in delivering this vital project.
