BlueCHP welcomes the announcement today by Hon. Colin Brooks, Minister for Housing, of the construction of 214 new mental health supported housing (MHSH) dwellings. This marks a commitment from the Victorian Government to the delivery of a stronger social housing system through innovation and community partnership.
Over $85 million has been contributed by Homes Victoria as part of the Victorian Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build. These 32 projects will deliver 214 homes, at a total project value of over $97 million including CHA contributions.
BlueCHP CEO Charles Northcote said “we are delighted to be working in partnership with Homes Victoria to deliver much needed mental health support housing in Victoria.”
“BlueCHP’s purpose is to make a difference in people’s lives by creating a future where every Australian has access to a home they can afford. Victoria plays a large part in that future vision, with a focus on responding to the increasing demand in Victoria by smaller households requiring one or two-bedroom homes.”
We are proud to be joining Community Housing Ltd and Mind Australia as one of the 3 Community Housing Agencies delivering these homes in partnership with Homes Victoria. BlueCHP will play a major part in the delivery of this program with 19 of the announced 32 projects to be delivered by the BlueCHP team, offering a total of 95 homes to Victorians in need of MHSH homes.
BlueCHP Development Director, Glenn Amanonce said “The design of these homes was influenced by people who have lived experience with mental illness, and this was facilitated by Mental Health Victoria. These projects incorporate building designs that support wellbeing, such as natural light, flexible living spaces, private entrances and green landscaping, along with accompanying wrap around health, mental health and wellbeing supports.”
“Our ability to deliver this scale of projects to achieve the objectives of Homes Victoria, is in large part due to the development expertise of our BlueCHP Development team and our development partnership with Rose and Gold Pty Ltd.”
The new homes will be delivered as supported housing in line with Recommendation 25 of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
