We are pleased to announce the completion of BlueCHP’s first Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) home under the ‘Guide You Home’ initiative.
On 5 December 2022, the BlueCHP team welcomed Federal Minister for Housing, Homelessness and Small Business, Julie Collins MP, to open the robust home.
The Guide You Home program is a unique, participant-led approach to designing and constructing SDA housing. Following the program’s Seven-Step-Process, this Robust home in Rydalmere (NSW) was designed to suit the long-term needs of two young men.
Guide You Home
This home is the first of the Guide You Home initiative, aimed at delivering SDA housing across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, and TAS.
Blue CHP’s National Manager of Disability Housing, Michelle Northcote, has played a key role in developing Guide You Home, working alongside the BlueCHP Development Team led by Glenn Amanonce, Director of Development.
BlueCHP’s financing partners for this program are For Purpose Investment Partners (FPIP), a not-for-profit social impact fund manager; and the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC).
Both partners have contributed $20 million to the initial tranche of funding. BlueCHP is one of the largest SDA housing developers nationally and as of December 2022 has $35 million in projects at various stages of development.
BlueCHP Chief Executive Officer Charles Northcote commented, “BlueCHP is committed to the sector and seeking to deliver Specialist Disability Accommodation to 1,250 people across eastern Australia over the next few years. With partners such as NHFIC and FPIP, we are committed to financing over the long term. This, together with BlueCHP’s charitable status, provides reassurance to our clients and their families”.
FPIP Executive Director Tim Shaw added, “FPIP is delighted to partner with BlueCHP to fund this property, which we believe will have a significant positive impact on the lives of the two young men who will call it home”.
SDA is part of the National Disability Insurance Scheme for the provision of care program for participants with high care needs. Expected SDA housing demand will be circa 35,000 places.
